51.6: Matt Callanan ‘We Make Good Happen’ talk & workshop

“The world doesn’t really need more millionaires. It needs a world filled with people with compassion, using their skills for good, with more of a community feel.”

Urban Foundry has invited Matt Callanan to Swansea to talk about how we can do some good in the community that we work in. To look at what time and skills we might have in our team that may benefit a local charity or good cause.

The workshop is the second in a series of events and activities called 51.6 – focusing on what we can accomplish when creativity, knowledge, enterprise and the passion and commitment of people to make a difference all come together. It’s being held at 222 High Street (big thank you to Coastal Housing for supporting this event) on Thursday 9thMay.

Matt Callanan’s life changed after an inspirational epiphany that occurred when he met Bill Murray whilst filming George Clooney for a documentary about social change. Matt, an established film-maker, set up a kindness project ‘We Make Good Happen‘ where he likes to bring people together to do good for other people – which saw him being included in The Independent’s Happy List “50 inspirational heroes whose kindness, courage and selflessness make our country a better place to live.”

“When an act of kindness happens, usually happiness is increased with both the giver and receiver. If you involve your staff in doing good for others, their wellbeing is likely to improve and it’s likely to improve how they work as a team. It would be great to see more businesses and business people thinking about how they could make a positive impact, a deeper cause and a mission more important than money.”

The first 51.6 workshop ‘Be More Pirate’ with Sam Conniff Allende in April was a huge success with over 70 people attending. Next week’s workshop has already sold out.
