How business support and creative collaboration helped bring a striking new mural to life in Swansea city centre.
Swansea’s creative scene continues to grow, with the new Elysium Gallery providing an exciting space for artists, communities and visitors to connect.
Led by Dan Staveley and the team at Elysium, the gallery is a fantastic addition to the city. And if you’ve walked past recently, you’ll have noticed something equally impressive taking shape on the outside of the building.
A large-scale mural by artists
Kitsune and Krimsone, inspired by the poetry of Dylan Thomas, is bringing new colour and creativity to the surrounding streets.
It’s a project we’ve been proud to support.
Supporting Creative Ambition
Our involvement began with helping to identify potential locations for public artwork through a walkabout of Swansea city centre.
We later connected with Kamil Hasan (Hass), founder of Fiya Creative CIC, when he attended our monthly First Tuesday Club looking for support to develop his creative business.
Working with our team, including Lauren Howlett, Hass developed his plans and successfully secured significant funding from Arts Council of Wales to deliver a programme of small and large-scale urban art projects across Swansea.
The Elysium mural, created by Kitsune and Krimsone, is one of the exciting results of that work, with community engagement led by Zoe Gealy and MIOE Creative.
Creative Businesses, Stronger Places
At Urban Foundry, we believe that supporting local people and businesses to turn their ideas into reality can have a lasting impact on the places around us.
Projects like this demonstrate how creative enterprise, public art and community collaboration can help shape the identity of a city, making it a more vibrant and interesting place to live, work and visit.
With our offices just around the corner from Elysium Gallery, we’ve enjoyed watching the mural take shape.
It’s a brilliant example of what can happen when creative ambition meets the right support — helping local businesses grow while bringing new energy and character to Swansea’s streets.
Business support for this project was funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
