Young people from NPTC Group of Colleges have been sharing their ideas and ambitions for Port Talbot’s future, as part of the engagement programme supporting the Port Talbot 2028 bid.
Urban Foundry is working with
Neath Port Talbot Council to manage engagement for the bid, bringing people together to explore what culture means to them and what they’d like to see happen across Port Talbot and the Afan Valley.
As part of this work, our Regeneration Consultant Lauren recently visited NPTC Group of Colleges, where she met with around 20 young people to hear their thoughts, experiences and ideas.
The session generated some brilliant discussions, with learners sharing their perspectives on Port Talbot, what makes the area special and how culture could help shape its future.
“It was wonderful to see our learners enthused, talking about what they would love to see happen in Port Talbot and the wider Port Talbot area.”

Making sure young people have a voice in the bid is particularly important. Their creativity, ideas and ambitions can help shape a programme that reflects the people and communities it represents.
And it seems the session made quite an impression. The conversations didn’t stop when the session ended, either.
“I have been met by some learners this morning who are still talking about ideas.”

Our team, including Kate and
Lauren, has been out and about across Port Talbot and the Afan Valley, listening to local people, gathering ideas and helping end that different voices and perspectives feed into the bid.
But perhaps one of the most encouraging outcomes of the college session was the sense of local pride it helped bring out.
“What a pleasure to see some pride in being from Port Talbot being exhibited.”

It’s all part of our approach to Engaging People: creating opportunities for meaningful conversations, bringing different perspectives together and helping communities play an active role in shaping the places where they live, work and spend time.
A big thank you to the staff and learners at NPTC Group of Colleges for their enthusiasm, creativity and contributions.
As always, young people have some of the most creative ideas. We’re looking forward to seeing how these conversations help shape Port Talbot’s ambitions for 2028.
