Winter Wellbeing at Urban HQ
Case Study
Bringing people together through creativity and connection.
OUR IMPACT
Winter can be an isolating time for many people. With support from COAST funding, we created a programme of free activities at Urban HQ designed to bring people together, encourage them to try something new and support their wellbeing.
From dance and drumming to urban art, science and family activities, the programme created welcoming opportunities for children, young people, families and people aged 50+ to take part, build confidence and connect with others.

CONFIDENCE THROUGH CREATIVITY
Creating a welcoming place to try something new
For many of the people who took part, Winter Wellbeing was an opportunity to try something they hadn’t done before – in a welcoming environment where activities were free and open to everyone.
Families saw children grow in confidence as they tried new things, while adults experiencing loneliness described feeling welcomed, uplifted and more connected.
For some, simply coming through the door and joining in was an important first step.
“Been feeling low lately and this has lifted my spirits… Just venturing out. So, first group like this and I loved it… uplifting and enjoyable.”

CREATIVITY. CONNECTION. WELLBEING.
Winter Wellbeing showed how accessible activities in a welcoming space can make a difference – helping people try new things, develop skills, build confidence and feel more connected to others.
It also introduced new people to Urban HQ and helped build a community interested in taking part in future activities.
