Gordon Gibson

Gordon Gibson M.A., Dip. (Urban Design), B.A. (Hons), M.R.I.C.S.

Gordon is an Associate Urban Designer for Urban Foundry. He was founding Director and lead Urban Designer on the staff of Sylfaen Cynefin. He holds a Masters degree in Urban Design and is a chartered surveyor.

Gordon has extensive experience in urban design and construction, including “revival strategies” for villages, towns and housing estates across Wales and England and in consultation work. He has international experience, having prepared major inner city strategies for Johannesburg and Prague, the latter an award winner. Jo’burg’s Nelson Mandela Bridge was completed within a few years of its proposal in his Johannesburg Inner City Strategy of 1994 (for Johannesburg City Council). Gordon has worked on town and community regeneration strategies across Wales, working with people in communities, communities first, third sector organisations and the private sector.

Gordon has worked for us on commissions for clients including: Natural Resources Wales; Milford Haven Port Authority; Pobl; the Morris Estate; Swansea Council; and a range of community and third sector clients. It was Gordon’s idea to establish the award winning Uplands Market in Swansea, which has grown into our Swansea Bay Street Markets project.

Gordon also lectures and writes on urban design and community sector themes and has served on various committees of the Welsh Government. He has also been an invited member of the government’s UK Sustainable Development Panel.

Although now retired, we can’t quite let him go and Gordon advises on urban design for various projects.
