Helping Babita’s Spice Deli grow

Case Study

Sometimes a market stall is the first step towards building something much bigger.

supporting businesses

Supporting businesses to start, test ideas and grow is an important part of what we do at Urban Foundry.

Through our Swansea Bay Street Markets, we create opportunities for independent businesses to trade in busy community locations, build a customer base and find out what works, in a supportive, low-risk environment.

For Babita’s Spice Deli, that opportunity helped turn a growing idea into an established local business.

From market trader to established business

Babita’s Spice Deli has become a familiar face at our street markets, serving authentic Indian street food to enjoy at the market or take home.

But their journey with us started much earlier.

Like many small businesses, Babita and Rana needed opportunities to get their products in front of people, test the market and develop a loyal customer base.

Our markets gave them a platform to do exactly that.

Over time, they have built a strong following and become part of the community of independent traders that makes our markets what they are.

“You were the first organisation that really believed in us and our products. The markets helped us build our own customer base and get to where we are today. We really wouldn’t be here without you.

We have huge appreciation for what Urban Foundry stands for in supporting local business and local produce.”

Creating opportunities for businesses to grow

The impact of our street markets goes beyond creating vibrant places.

They provide a practical route into business for people who have an idea or product but need somewhere to start, offering the chance to launch, test trade, build confidence, reach new customers and grow.

That same practical approach runs through our wider Supporting Businesses work.

Whether someone is starting out or looking to strengthen an existing organisation, we provide experience-led support including business planning and development, marketing, fundraising, organisational reviews and one-to-one mentoring.
