Getting crafty in a shopping centre

Urban Foundry transformed part of Quadrant Shopping into the magical world of Alice in Wonderland during the summer holidays. This was part of our ongoing work with Bewonder*, Quadrant Shopping’s marketing agency and follows on from the filmmaking sessions we ran in May 2018.

Over the course of five days in August, the themed craft sessions engaged over 200 children in fun activities such as making postcards, clay cakes, boats and badges. Two local artists worked alongside Urban Foundry staff to ensure that the week was fun and meaningful.

It was part of a series of activities that inspire young people to try different crafts. By making the environment as creative and quirky as possible, it takes the participants into a magical make-believe world where they can express themselves via different art forms. The feedback from the week was very positive. Lisa Marsden who brought her daughter to the slime making workshop said:

“My daughter had an amazing time; the team are outstanding. Thank you for a fab day, you really made my daughters day and she also loved helping too.”

The next activity is planned for February half term 2019 – watch this space.
